Ostravar is a beer typical of the City of Ostrava and surrounding area. Its brewing tradition goes back to the year 1897, when the Czech Joint Stock Brewery in Moravská Ostrava (today's Ostravar Brewery) was founded.
The first batch of beer was brewed one year later. Since that time Ostravar has been brewing a beer whose character is typical for this region – from the highest quality raw ingredients, according to recipes that are a well-kept secret, using traditional brewing procedures backed by several generations of experienced brewmasters.
The result: a beer of exceptional qualities and taste, recognised by a number of major awards.

1916 war crisis hits the brewery, production volumes decline
1938 brewery bounces back and prospers like never before
1942 after 44 years, the Germans shut down the brewery
1944 brewery reopened
1957 Ostravar takes over production of the Karviná brewery, which is shut down to allow for mining of black coal
1968 complete overhaul of the brewery completed
1987 new high-capacity brewhouse is built
1997 the brewery becomes part of Pražské pivovary, majority-owned by the British corporation Bass
2000 Belgium-based Interbrew becomes majority owner of Pražské pivovary
2004 For the sixth year in a row, the Ostravar Beerfest is held, becoming one of the biggest regular events in Ostrava
2007 Ostravar comes with new bottle on the market
2007 more than 10.000 visitors on Ostravar brewery celebrations
2008 Ostravar comes with canned beer Ostravar Original
2010 Ostravar comes with new design
